A Cook is a trained and skilled professional who prepares food for consumption. Working under the supervision of a chef, the cook main duty is to prepare food quickly and consistently, having little need for an executive chef or sous chef.
Cooks are in charge of many activities related to the kitchen, which usually includes preparing, seasoning, and cooking soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, or other foodstuffs in restaurants. Cooks may also order supplies, keep records and accounts, price items on menu, or plan menu.
Cooks can work in a variety of places, these will include: restaurants, hotels, cruise ships, event catering, hospitals, offices, and the list goes on.
Most Cooks hours are in the range of 40-60 hours per week, normally carried out over split service shifts covering breakfast/lunch and dinner service.
